Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPTu)
The addition of a geophone in the piezocone body enables the collection of seismic wave data, and the calculation of shear and compressional wave velocities during the cone penetration test.
For SCPTu testing, the selected energy source depends on field conditions and the specific data which is to be collected for a project. Figure 1 on the right illustrates the typical layout for a downhole seismic cone test. Figure 2 on the right illustrates the output generated from a seismic cone penetration test.
