Cone Penetration Testing
UVIF Cone Penetration Testing (UVIF CPTu)
The amalgamation of the ultra violet induced fluorescence (UVIF) module and the cone penetrometer with pore pressure measurement (CPTU) produces a powerful site characterization tool for geo-environmental site investigations.
The UVIF module has high energy ultra violet light directed through a sapphire window into the soil and groundwater being penetrated. The ultra violet light causes fluorescence of hydrocarbon contaminants contained within the soil and groundwater. The intensity of the fluorescence is detected downhole in the UVIF module. As the UVIF module collects information on hydrocarbon contaminant characteristics, the CPTU characterizes the ground in terms of soil type, soil permeability, soil strength and phreatic surface.
