Feature Project

ConeTec RSCPTU, SDMT, and DST in Papua New Guinea

Deep Amphibious SCPTU, EVST AND Sampling on a Tailings Pond in british columbia

Our Prince George team was tasked with collecting CPT and eVST data to profile the entire tailings facility at a mine in British Columbia. The site presented challenges due to the soft tailings beach, along with the need to conduct profiling in areas of the tailings that were completely water-capped. Another challenge was the total depth of the tailings, which exceeded 100 meters in some areas.

To overcome these challenges, an amphibious work platform was utilized, along with a 20-ton ramset and a skid-mounted drill. This allowed the crew to access all areas and provide geotechnical data and samples to help develop a model of the entire pond.

The crew's ability to efficiently perform testing to depth and access all locations proved essential for meeting the project's schedule and budget efficiently, despite encountering access conditions harder than anticipated.

OPERATIONS manager

Keenan is a Mining-Mechanical Engineering graduate from Queen's University in Kingston, ON, and he has been on the Prince George team for over 5 years executing and managing the most difficult projects that the team has tackled. He is ConeTec's Prince George Operations Manager and his experience ranges from labour-intensive to co-lead engineering positions.

Keenan has extensive experience with CPTu deployment (Seismic, Resistivity), electric vane-shear (eVST), flat-blade dilatometer (DMT/SDMT), pressuremeter (PMT), and drilling and soil sampling systems (sonic, rotary, and direct push-based methods).

Safety, community engagement, production efficiency, and data quality are the primary values ingrained within. Keenan has developed a strong independence and understanding of how to work in industrial settings safely and effectively, while maintaining a strong, professional relationship with his respective crew and clients. The commitment to stay within the industry is attributed to the appealing, dynamic nature of in-situ geotechnical investigations as well as the opportunities to develop a professional career within the organization.
